Dear God/ess, Healing the self is the beginning of the healing journey.
How best to do this?
How have you been healed in the past, and how did it feel?
What spiritual practices have you previously practiced that brought you strength that you continue to use to raise your energy, to gather courage to meet the challenges of the job? and every other challenge of life!
If you no longer are practicing meditation or yoga or any other practice you once did regularly, what would it take to get back to the practice--without excuses!!
Just do it!! Ask your angels for assistance! They will be ecstatic that you remembered them.
Nothing is as it should be. And everything is exactly as it is.
The first statement implies resistance to the dance of life-- the second recognizes a situation for what it is, and acceptance oversees all.
I remember this as I walk into the confines of my hospital walls. We see scenarios all the time that we all proclaim, "NOT FAIR!!"
Who are we to say? But we certainly can say it is exactly as it is--no more, no less.
I have to ask myself: What is in the realm of my ability to help, to change the situation for the better, to help a grieving person, to give comfort and grace?
As I think of ways to help other people, I must be constantly on the lookout for all the ways I must heal.
Because I can't help anyone nor can I help myself as long as I judge, lack acceptance and resist everything that presents --disguised as problems --but truly are opportunities for growth and enlightenment.
And continue to take good care of myself, every moment along the way.
As I age wisely, I've come to realize that Not Thinking is the heart of my own spiritual practice.
Everyday, I meditate, take long slow walks by the river that runs by my house, and do my entrainment brain exercises--giving my brain the same aerobic workout that the rest of my body enjoys with exercise.
And consequently, my mind slows down, and I feel at peace. I am taking care of myself, and can take better care of everyone else.
"Caring" is what a nurse does--in the framework of Being. We listen, give what is needed, take care of machines and do a lot of charting--not necessarily in that order.
Because of our ability to care in this state of Being, and ability as healers, others in the healthcare arena may see nurses as weak and as easy prey--to verbally abuse, to sexually harass, to make her think she is an idiot.
This is what needs to be healed within our profession. We need to take back our strength and our courage. We need to stand together, and protect the new nurses coming in. We need to create a forum to make sure our voices are heard.
And continue to take good care of ourselves, every moment, with every breath.
Om, Peace, Amen

For many years I practiced Hatha Yoga and enjoyed the physical and mental benefits I derived it. I injured my shoulder years ago and got away from it for a while... I want to get back to it as a daily routine. You're so right on with this post. As don't know where she came up with it, but Mama always said, "You have to take care of sister donkey!"

All my life...being from Murphy bloodlines & raised to always expect Murphy's Law to kick in at every turn...I've long recognized the power of the Eastern Philosophy of Wei-Ji, wherein inside every crisis lies an opportunity for growth of the spirit, mind & body...the trick of course is training our minds to be quiet enough to find that opportunity.
Being equally of Hippie flower-child descent...I've long integrated yoga as a natural part of my daily functions and insisted that the physical therapists incorporate it into my hubby's burn therapy after his accident...the therapists at the burn center were so pleased with his results that they have since incorporated yoga as an integral part of burn injury recovery at out local burn center.

I never really use a "practice" as Yoga, even though I believe in it, my strength always came from believing in me, and hard working.
I have some good friends who will say again "this is Michey's independence", even if sometime I look independent it is a reason on doing it, it is not an irrational stubbornness. Living in 2 continentals, 2 different systems, 2 different conceptions about life and priorities, and good vs. bad, I think I have been a good student and I have learned something from my life. And by the way, my life wasn't a rose garden, it has had a lot of ups and downs.
Kate this is a great prayer
Thanks
Michey

Yes! And we will do these together!!
Yes, John, I don't think your mama was referring to the Democratic Party!!
LOLOL!!
Michey, You are the best! Thanks for stoipping by!!
Oh yes and as a "caretaker" of sorts with a legally blind hubby, I know this well, and I forget too often. It's easy to get caught up in the activities of the family and forget to do the things that I know make me better day by day. Working on that one now so your prayer is most helpful. Thank you!

A beautiful prayer today, Kate! And you are right on the money with it. We can't possibly heal others until we have healed ourselves. Just as we can't love others until we love ourselves.
Wisdom from my Grandmother came two fold: Treat others as you would treat yourself (Golden Rule) and the one I love the most - You have to be able to look in the mirror each morning and truly like the person who is looking back at you.
We can't possibly do either unless we keep ourselves in good condition and be healed ourselves.

Dear Kate,
The practices I have used in the past are calling to me again.
Meditation, writing journals, therapeutic relationships, time in nature and with music, animals, reading, praying, drawing, and creating are ways in which my life becomes clearer for me.
This is a time that I can draw more from each of these practices and be more invested in them. The dividends are more than rewarding.
Thanks for this prayer. I needed to invest in myself again.
Hugs,
Barbara Grace
I need to honestly do "Mirror Work." Joan and I discuss doing this from time to time on MoonMooYou: The Collective Wisdom. It is a simple exercise where you look into your own eyes and say over and over, "I love you," until you mean it!!
Yes--Tomaso at the top of all these comments is my husband, and we joined the YMCA this morning!! (2/8). Yea!! I will enjoy going with him for various work out activities!! And getting in better shape, as well!! All of this snow makes me become more sedentary. That is, between shoveling and walking the dog, of course!!
